Encounters

Encounters specialise in participation, delivering community involvement projects that inspire creativity,
dialogue & exchange
. They create spaces and processes for people to explore their relationship with themselves, each other, where they live and the wider world. Encounters began in 2003 by taking over a series of dis-used shops in Sheffield. Since then they have delivered nine shops across the country and over forty projects working with thousands of people in community, arts, regeneration, health, environmental, and educational contexts

unnamedThey design ‘Invitations to Join In’ that are highly accessible reaching people from all walks of life. These Invitations offer people the space to reflect on the past, acknowledge the present and share positive ideas for change that could lead to more fulfilling and interconnected lives. They create events, celebrations, performances, workshops, public interventions and interactive exhibitions that share these memories, experiences and ideas with the wider community.

Encounters are based in Totnes and work regularly in Plymouth, Torbay, Exeter and across the UK. Encounters is led by Creative Director Ruth Ben-Tovim (see right) working with a team of Creative Associates who come together to devise and deliver a wide range of projects.
