One of the things that the research for the Atmos Totnes Hub and it’s “Past” element has discovered is a number of old maps of the site.  Those of us more familiar with its recent history struggle to imagine the site as anything other than covered in concrete.  But as this fascinating map from the 1880s shows, there was a time when the Brunel building was the only thing on the site, and it sat surrounded by fields.  Now, I wonder if we could still track down that well?

newmapEven by the 1930s, the north part of the site was still fields, and the land immediately behind the Brunel building was allotments, as this photo from the time shows.

If you’ve first hand memories of this, or have any other stories to tell about the site’s past we’d love to hear them.  Do drop in to the Atmos Totnes Hub on Fridays and Saturdays.

We are proud to have received funds from All Our Stories Heritage Lottery Fund which has supported work during this stage of consultation at Atmos Totnes. english_landscape_black (2)
